Beat the winter illnesses and the next "pandemic"
Every year there seems to be a start to the winter illness season, or we might call it the low vitamin D season.
Last week seemed to be the start. I figured today, we better talk about the immune system.
If you take into account all the parts of the immune system it would be a book. I can only give you some highlights and things to think about. In 2020, I highlighted the differences in "The Germ theory" and the Terrain theory. Traditional doctors believe that germs cause your illness. Natural doctors believe the health of the host determines if you get sick (the terrain).

Reminder: We are collecting pajamas and books for the Utah Foster Care.
PJ's can be for kids of any age. Just bring them into the office. We really appreciate the help.

We are looking at adding more cranial sacral therapy hours.
This is a fabulous therapy for any problems in the head and great for babies.
Headaches, jaw problems, etc.. Just ask me about this in the office

You can think about it with school kids. If an illness goes through a school, does every kid get sick? Of course not. A healthy kid has a hard time getting sick.
Since the immune system is many different parts it can take awhile to rebuild and repair itself. That’s why supplements and herbs can be critical to use.
A few things that tear down your immune system.
1. Sugar... uh-oh the holidays are coming
2. Stress... anybody got stress right now?
3. Lack of sleep.
4. Being inside --out of the sun
Since this is a lifestyle problem it can take awhile to reengineer your life. This is why I use supplements and herbs to speed up the process and help support the body.
Here are some basics that I've found to be helpful over the years.
1. Get adjusted regularly... Not just when you have pain. I have seen this alone improve patients immune systems. This has been very obvious with kids.
2. Speaking of kids, Standard Process has a new immune supporting chewable tablet. This might be the easiest and most healthy supplement to give to your kids.
3. For the adults: I like to try and support all the nutritional needs with Standard Processes "Immuplex" supplement. It was made for long term use in feeding the immune system the raw materials it needs.
4. I also think its still a good idea to take some vitamin D during the winter. In the northern latitudes, we can't get enough sunshine in the winter. I use Standard Processes Cataplex D.
5. For the herbs, I use one of two things from Mediherb. They make the most potent herbs available.
- Andrographis complex is wonderful if a person tends to get sick easily or wants to prevent illness and has a weaker immune system.
- Astragulus Complex is great for long term immune support and especially helpful if someone has more stress in their life.
If you really want to ramp up your immune system I'm going to make it easier with a little Thanksgiving sale.
If you order in the office or email the office at docaltman@protonmail.com by Dec 1, 2024. You can get any of these supplements for 20% off. Happy Thanksgiving.

Staying healthy and preventing illness is so much better than fighting an illness. This isn't foolproof because stress and lack of sleep can derail any prevention plan. But, it sure helps when your terrain is strong.
